If you are a new resident in Ontario and have a valid driver's licence from another province, state or country, you can use it for up to 60 days after you move to Ontario. If you want to keep driving in Ontario, you must get an Ontario driver's licence. The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number used in the administration of various Canadian government programs. You will require a SIN to work in Canada or to receive government benefits. To apply for a SIN, you must complete an application form and provide an original of a document that proves your identity and status in Canada. A SIN card is issued bearing your Social Insurance Number and your name.

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan is publicly funded. Following the standards of the Canada Health Act, OHIP provides for universal coverage of all "medically necessary" services. This includes unlimited visits to the doctor of your choice, surgical fees and hospital ward charges.
